Fingerprints can be taken at the Police Division at 30 Gilchrist Hall. Fingerprinting hours are: Monday 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Request Event Security The Police Division provides police and security services for special events such as concerts, dignitary visits, commencement, holiday celebrations, student and department social events, athletics and weddings. The Special Events Lieutenant determines the number of officers required to cover each event and the need for any special services, such as ambulances. Requests for event security must be submitted to the Special Events Lieutenant after it has been scheduled with the appropriate UNI department (see below) and at least ten business days prior to the event. How to Schedule Special Events Student Organizations, Campus Departments, Community Groups, Businesses and Individuals Non-student groups and individuals can request security services by completing a UNI Police special events request form at least 10 days prior to your event. After your form is received, you will only be contacted by the Special Events Lieutenant if there are specific questions about the request. However, if you would like to speak with someone about the details of your event or about specific requests, feel free to contact the Special Events Lieutenant for assistance. Cancellation Policy Cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to the scheduled event. If not, the event requestor will be responsible for payment of a minimum of three (3) hours for each officer scheduled for the event. Records The University of Northern Iowa Department of Public Safety retains the original documents generated by the Police Division. Copies of motor vehicle accident reports, criminal and non-criminal investigation reports and/or other incidents reported to the Police Division may be obtained between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). The University is governed by the provisions of the Iowa Open Records Law and will disseminate reports and other relevant statistics in accordance with these guidelines. Jump start vehicle with a dead battery The Department of Public Safety has a car jump start machine which can be checked out at the office in the event of a dead car battery. Jumper cables are also available for check out. A UNI ID or driver's license is needed to check out the equipment. Please call 319-273-2712 for assistance.
