Vendor & Construction Information

Vendors, construction and contractor personnel (including sub-contractors) who conduct business on the university campus are required to purchase and display the appropriate parking permit. This includes any company and privately owned/operated vehicles parked anywhere on campus.

The following areas are not exempt from the permit requirements:

  • Designated construction areas
  • Designated staging areas (including non-parking areas)

In addition, the following areas are restricted and cannot be used as staging areas unless authorized by the Department of Public Safety:

  • Parking Meters: All meters must be paid even with a Service or Construction permit. This includes summer months and when class is not in session.
  • Timed Parking Areas: All time restrictions are enforced 24/7.
  • Handicap Parking: Vehicles must display a current state issued disabled placard/plate and the appropriate UNI permit at all times.

Vendors and construction personnel are expected to follow all UNI parking regulations. These can be found in the UNI Parking Manual. Only the Department of Public Safety can modify these requirements.

Construction (CS) permits are not valid in any area or lot, including designated service zones, except the one assigned by Parking Services. This includes the construction and staging areas. If required, coordination and location of any staging/construction areas within parking lots are done through your facilities management representative who will then contact Parking Services.

Effective August 1, 2023: "R" permits are now virtual. This is a permit number assigned to a vehicle's plate. They will not receive a physical hang tag or permit. If their plate number changes, using a different car, even temporarily, or any of the plate and/or vehicle information used to obtain a permit online is incorrect, you must contact our office so we can amend your account. Please visit our Virtual Permits page for additional information.

Vendor Parking Options

Vendors who conduct business on campus can purchase service permits in one of three ways at the Department of Public Safety:

  • Annual permits effective August 1 through July 31; see Permit Costs for current prices
  • Weekly (7 days) at $12.50 week
  • Daily at $2.50 a day

Permits must be paid for at the time of issuance. Parking Services accepts cash, check and credit/debit cards issued to the person presenting the card.

Due to effects on UNI operations, some Service Vehicle Areas may be restricted to UNI vehicles only (see Parking Manual 11.5).  Other than this, service permits may be used in designated Service Vehicle parking stalls/areas.

Construction/Contractor Parking Options

Construction permits are available to contractors working on campus in one of three ways at the Department of Public Safety:

  • Annual permits effective August 1 through July 31; see Permit Costs for current prices
  • Weekly (7 days) at $12.50 week

The construction permit allows parking in an assigned B, C, or R parking area. The Department of Public Safety assigns the area. They are not valid in designated Service Vehicle parking stalls/areas. A service permit is required in these areas. Parking adjacent or near the construction area(s) is not guaranteed. B parking areas must be vacated daily from 1:00 a.m.-7:00 a.m.

All other areas on campus are restricted even in the summer months and when school is not in session.

Permits must be paid for at the time of issuance. Parking Services accepts cash, check, and credit/debit cards issued to the person presenting the card.

Violations & Towing

Vehicles found in violation of UNI parking regulations are subject to citation. Vendors, construction personnel and contractors are not considered visitors if they receive a citation.

If you receive a citation, additional instructions are listed on the back of the citation and envelope. You can appeal any citation within 10 days from the date of issue.

Vehicles accumulating a total of five (5) unpaid citations or a total of fifty dollars ($50) in unpaid penalties are subject to removal without notice at the owner’s expense.
